Hey there everyone! Welcome to my new blog. If you are looking for health and wellness tips, parenting humor and fails, and the occasional recipe or 2, you are in the right place. For those of you who used to follow my old blog, I am still trying to figure out how to bring all of my old posts over here, but I am not the most tech savvy person on the block so it might take awhile. I will figure it out sooner or later.
As you may or may not know, 2016 hasn't exactly been a banner year for me with regard to staying injury free. In my prior 35 years, I never ever seriously injured myself. I had stitches once when I was 6 and I broke my thumb twice, once in High School and once in College ( and I wasn't what you would categorize as sober for that fiasco). In January, I fractured my left foot and had to be in a boot for nearly 2 months. I threw myself quite the pity party and gained back a LOT of weight. Like I was just a few pounds away from where I was when I started my Beachbody journey. Needless to say, I wasn't feeling my best. Exercise is such a STRESS reliever for me and I was suffering and in turn my nutrition went to hell in a hand basket. When I lose control, I REALLY lose control and I needed to nip it in the bud.
My foot healed well and I fought to get myself back on track. It took a LONG time for me to build up my endurance with working out and running. I felt like I was starting at square one, which if you have seen my before and afters, you know how far square one was. I needed to have a goal to work towards, so I signed up for a Spartan race (which I completed) and the Brooklyn Half Marathon (which I didn't and I will explain why in a minute).
About a week before the big race, I was on a training run when I tripped on some uneven cement. I went flying and totally rolled my ankle. It was pain like I had never felt before. 3 people stopped to help me which restored my faith in humanity a bit ;). A special thank you to Eliza who drove me to my car, despite the fact that I was a stranger and bleeding and smelled like a runner.
Turns out I tore some ligaments and now I find myself back in the boot. I really am determined to not have a pity party part 2, so I decided to do a program called the Ultimate Reset. It is a 21 day detox "cleanse" that is seriously the best thing ever. The first time I did it, in June of 2015, was such an eye opener for me. I really responded to a vegan menu but I didn't sustain it. I am now beginning week 2 of the program and I am loving it just as much.
Week 1 recap:
I forgot just how much food prep ( and DISHES) was involved with this BUT this time I made things easier on myself. The first time I did this program, I made every single recipe. I didn't ever double up so it was SUPER time consuming. This time I repeated a lot of meals and I used the reset in a crunch option (quicker meals that can be made in a pinch). Side note: the recipes are all delicious for real. It is amazing how a simple recipe can be so good.
I also forgot what it is like to drink over a gallon of water per day. I have basically been peeing for the past week but wow is my skin clearer. I just feel so much better already. Even if I am off kilter thanks to this boot.
I am proud that I am not letting this injury get the better of me. I plan to incorporate some light ab work in this week as well. Nothing too crazy, but just a little something to get me moving. I look forward to sharing my journey with you all!
